Weekly recap Apr 6–12, 2026 — United elevated bonuses, AA status cuts, and AmEx NLL offers

A busy week in points-land. Chase rolled out elevated bonuses across the entire United card lineup and tacked on an authorized user kicker that makes these among the best United offers in recent memory. Meanwhile, American Airlines confirmed what frequent flyers have been dreading: elite status just got meaningfully weaker starting May 18. On the business card front, a no-lifetime-language offer surfaced on the AmEx Business Platinum at 200,000 Membership Rewards — worth paying close attention to. Here's everything that mattered April 6–12.

Credit Card & Program News

United Cards Hit Elevated Bonuses Across the Board

Chase refreshed the signup bonuses on the full United card family this week and added a 10,000-mile authorized user bonus on top of each standard offer. Current offers: United Explorer at 70,000+10,000 miles after $3,000 spend in 3 months, United Quest at 90,000+10,000 miles after $4,000 in 3 months, and the United Club Infinite, United Business Card, and United Club Business each at 100,000+10,000 miles after $5,000 in 3 months. If you've been eyeing a United card, this lineup is as strong as it gets — and the AU bonus is a nice nudge to add a household member while the offer is live.

JetBlue Premier Gets a Companion Pass Overhaul

The JetBlue Premier Card picked up meaningful new benefits this week. Cardholders can now earn a companion pass worth up to $500 with $15,000 in annual spend, or $1,500 with $75,000. The card also added a 25 Tile annual status credit and 15% off TrueBlue award flights. These aren't earth-shattering changes, but the $500 companion pass at a reasonable spend threshold makes this card worth a second look if you fly JetBlue regularly.

Alaska Companion Certificates Get Restricted Again

Alaska tightened companion certificate sharing for the second time since the Hawaiian merger. Companion certificates can now only be used when the qualifying fare is purchased specifically on an Atmos Ascent card — the Alaska-branded card that emerged from the merger. If you were using Alaska companion certs with purchases on other cards, that door has officially closed.

American Airlines Devalues Elite Status, Effective May 18

AA confirmed a set of unfriendly changes to elite status benefits taking effect May 18. Elite members booked in Basic Economy lose free seat assignments, complimentary domestic upgrades, systemwide upgrades, and favorable bag fee treatment. This isn't about stripping status — it's about stripping status value when you're in a fare class AA wants you to avoid. If you carry AAdvantage status and regularly book Basic Economy on price, you'll want to rethink that approach before May.

American Airlines Completes the Bag Fee Sweep

AA raised checked bag fees this week, finishing a synchronized increase that now covers every major U.S. carrier — United, Delta, Southwest, JetBlue, Alaska, and AA. The question is no longer which airline charges less; it's which card in your wallet covers bags for free.

Signup Bonuses

AmEx Business Platinum NLL Offer: 200,000 Membership Rewards

A no-lifetime-language offer appeared on the The Business Platinum Card from American Express at 200,000 Membership Rewards after $20,000 spend in 3 months. "No lifetime language" means prior cardholders who already earned a welcome bonus may still be eligible. The Business Platinum carries a steep annual fee, but 200k MR points at roughly 2.0¢ each represents $4,000 in potential value. If you've held this card before and have the business spend to justify it, this is one of the stronger NLL windows we've seen recently.

AmEx Business Gold NLL Offer Also Surfaced at 200,000 Points

A matching 200,000 MR NLL offer was spotted on the American Express Business Gold Card at $15,000 spend in 3 months — a lower bar than the Platinum. Same no-lifetime-language eligibility applies. The Business Gold is a different beast than the Platinum (no lounge access, lower annual fee, excellent everyday category earning), and 200k MR at $15k spend is genuinely compelling for business owners who haven't held this card recently.

AmEx Business Checking: 70,000 MR Points

American Express launched targeted offers for 70,000 Membership Rewards points on a new business checking account, requiring $15,000 in deposits within 30 days, five qualifying transactions, and maintaining that balance for 60 days post-deposit. Not a credit card, so no annual fee angle — but 70k MR is real value for points collectors who can move business cash through an AmEx account. Check your targeted offers.

Bank of America Cards With $150 Rakuten Stacking Bonus

The Bank of America Travel Rewards and Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards cards are currently available through Rakuten with an extra $150 cash back stacked on top of the standard card signup bonus. Business versions reportedly offer equal or better bonuses through the same channel. If you're in the market for a BofA card, routing through Rakuten is a straightforward way to add $150 to whatever offer you're already seeing.

Transfer Bonuses & Partners

Rove Adds Virgin Red as a 1:1 Transfer Partner

Rove, the travel platform that pools points from multiple programs, added Virgin Red as a 1:1 transfer partner this week. Rove already supports Accor and Lufthansa. Virgin Red's addition is worth noting because it creates a path from Rove-aggregated points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club (via Virgin Red conversions), which remains one of the better sweet spot programs for premium cabin awards on Delta and others.

Flying Blue Expands SkyTeam Elite Plus Status Match to U.S. and Canada

Air France-KLM's Flying Blue extended its SkyTeam Elite Plus status match to U.S. and Canadian members — though matches are capped at Gold (SkyTeam Elite Plus) rather than Platinum. If you have status with a competing carrier and spend time on SkyTeam flights, it's worth checking eligibility. Gold status with Flying Blue includes lounge access and upgrade priority on Air France and KLM.

Airline & Hotel Deals

Alaska MileagePlan + United Shopping Portals: 500 Bonus Miles on $100+

Both Alaska MileagePlan Shopping and United MileagePlus Shopping portals are offering 500 bonus miles on purchases of $100 or more through mid-April. These portal bonuses are easy wins — if you have any online purchases coming up, routing through either portal before checkout takes 30 seconds and drops free miles in your account.

IHG 3x Points at Select International Properties

IHG is running a 3x points promotion at select properties outside the Americas through a limited window. If you have an international stay booked with IHG, register for this promo before checkout — it takes no effort and the points add up. The IHG One Rewards Premier already earns at elevated rates on IHG stays, so this stacks nicely.

Wyndham: 5,000 Bonus Points on Two-Night Caesars Stays

Wyndham is offering 5,000 bonus points for two-night stays at Caesars properties. Modest, but a freebie if you already have a Caesars stay in the pipeline through their long-standing Wyndham partnership.

AmEx Offers: $150 Off $375+ at North American Marriott Properties

A targeted AmEx Offer is circulating for $150 off $375 or more at North American Marriott hotels through July 22. Check your eligible AmEx cards — this stacks naturally with any Marriott Bonvoy points you'd earn on the stay and doesn't require much besides adding the offer before you check in.

AmEx Airfare Incidental Credits Back in Action

After a period of downtime in March, AmEx airline incidental fee workarounds appear to be functioning again for recent purchases. If you were holding off on running charges through a Business Platinum or Business Gold for this benefit, reports suggest it's working — though as always, monitoring community reports before relying on it is worth doing.

Synchrony Launches a Travel Booking Portal

Synchrony quietly launched its own travel portal offering $100 off future hotel, rental car, or activity bookings made through July 31. No minimum spend requirement was mentioned. If you carry a Synchrony card and haven't checked it out yet, it's worth a look for upcoming travel.

Card Curator Take

The headline moves this week are Chase's United card refresh and the AmEx Business Platinum NLL. The United lineup at 70,000–100,000 miles is already strong, and the 10,000 authorized user kicker is a meaningful add for households where two people travel. United Explorer at 70k after $3k spend is the accessible entry point; United Quest at 90k is the sweet spot for most travelers who want premium features without the Club lounge commitment.

The AmEx Business Platinum NLL at 200k MR is the other standout — if you have a business with real spend and you've held this card before, the no-lifetime-language window is exactly what you've been waiting for. The AA status news is a slow burn, but May 18 isn't far off: if you carry AAdvantage status and routinely book Basic Economy on price, now's a good time to weigh how those changes affect your flying strategy. Use Card Curator to see which cards in your wallet best offset the industry's relentless bag fee convergence.
