Weekly Recap: May 11–17 — Chase UR Bonuses to Southwest & Marriott, Discover Goes Capital One
Chase UR hits 30% to Southwest and 55% to Marriott Bonvoy simultaneously, AmEx Marriott Business jumps to 150K points, and Discover sets its Capital One merger date.
A busy week in the points world — Chase dropped simultaneous transfer bonuses to both Southwest and Marriott Bonvoy, AmEx pulled a bit of a bait-and-switch on Marriott card eligibility before (partially) walking it back, and Discover officially set a date for its Capital One merger. Here's everything worth knowing from May 11–17.
Credit Card & Program News
AmEx Marriott Bonvoy Business: Elevated 150K + $125 Offer
The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card is running an elevated welcome offer of 150,000 Bonvoy points plus a $125 statement credit after $8,000 in spend within six months. That's a step up from the standard 125,000-point offer and one of the better Marriott business card offers we've seen. At roughly 0.7¢ per Bonvoy point, you're looking at over $1,000 in value if you can maximize redemptions — more if you're strategic about category hotels.
AmEx Marriott Card Language — Added, Then Partially Reversed
AmEx briefly added restrictive eligibility language to its Marriott lineup that would have blocked applicants who recently held Chase Marriott cards. The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant restrictions were subsequently reversed, but it's a reminder that AmEx can (and occasionally does) tighten rules without much warning. If you've been eyeing a Marriott card, it's worth applying sooner rather than waiting for the "perfect" moment.
Discover Officially Moving to Capital One App July 27
Capital One announced that all Discover cardholders will manage their accounts through the Capital One app starting July 27, 2026. Discover it Miles holders will retain their existing rewards structure but gain access to Capital One's travel portal and earning benefits. This is the most concrete sign yet that the Capital One–Discover merger is fully operational at the consumer level.
Uber and UberEATS Drop Discover Card Support
Discover cardholders can no longer add new Discover cards to their Uber or UberEATS accounts. Existing saved cards may still work, but the writing is on the wall. If you use Uber frequently and carry a Discover card, add it to Apple Pay or Google Wallet as a workaround while this plays out.
Intuit Launches a Business Credit Card
Intuit quietly launched the Intuit Business Credit Card — a no-annual-fee business card offering $300 after $3,000 in spend within three months, 2% back on everything, and 5% back on Intuit services (QuickBooks, TurboTax, etc.). It requires a paid Intuit account, which limits the audience — but if you're already running your business through Intuit's ecosystem, this is worth a look.
Apple Card Signup: Free AirPods Pro 3
Apple is running a card acquisition offer through retail locations starting around May 17 that nets new Apple Card holders a free pair of AirPods Pro 3 (a $249 value) as a statement credit — no minimum spend required. It's a strong offer if you've been thinking about the AirPods anyway, though the Apple Card's ongoing earning rate isn't going to challenge the top travel cards.
Costco App Now Accepts Any Visa Card
Costco's digital wallet, previously locked to the co-branded Citi Costco card, now lets you add any Visa card. You can scan a single QR code at checkout to handle both membership verification and payment. A small quality-of-life upgrade, but a meaningful one for Costco Anywhere Visa cardholders who occasionally shop with other cards.
Transfer Bonuses
Chase UR → Southwest: 30% Bonus Through June 5
This is the most actionable item of the week. Chase Ultimate Rewards is offering a 30% transfer bonus to Southwest Rapid Rewards through June 5, 2026 — meaning every 1,000 Chase points becomes 1,300 Southwest points. If you're chasing a Southwest Companion Pass or have an upcoming Southwest redemption, transfer now. The Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Ink business cards all participate. Minimum transfer is 1,000 points.
Chase UR → Marriott Bonvoy: 55% Bonus Through June 30
Chase is also running a 55% transfer bonus to Marriott Bonvoy through June 30, 2026 — one of the strongest Chase → Marriott bonuses on record. Every 1,000 Chase points becomes 1,550 Bonvoy points instead of the standard 1:1. The math still doesn't work for most use cases (Bonvoy points are worth ~0.7¢ each, so you're generally better off keeping Ultimate Rewards in-ecosystem), but if you have a specific Marriott redemption in mind — particularly a category hotel where you'd get outsized value — this is the window to move points. Both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve participate.
Citi ThankYou → Wyndham: 25% Bonus Through June 13
Citi is running a 25% transfer bonus to Wyndham Rewards through June 13, making the ratio 1:1.25 instead of the standard 1:1. Wyndham points are most valuable for aspirational redemptions at all-inclusive resorts (Club Wyndham properties) or for outsized value on nights at Wyndham-affiliated properties. The Citi Strata Premier is the primary ThankYou earning card. At Wyndham's 1.1¢ baseline valuation, this bonus effectively gets you closer to 1.4¢ per ThankYou point for Wyndham redemptions.
Rakuten Cashback Can Now Be Earned as Bilt Points
Rakuten and Bilt integrated a new option: for six months, you can convert Rakuten cashback to Bilt points at a 1:1 rate. After the promo period, conversion rates vary by Bilt status tier (50 Bilt points per $1 for Blue members, 100 per $1 for higher tiers). Bilt points transfer to a strong partner lineup, so this is a genuine value-add for Rakuten users who earn significant cashback. Worth switching your Rakuten payout method for the duration of the promo.
Airline & Hotel Deals
Homes & Villas by Marriott: 40,000 Bonus Points
Marriott is offering 40,000 bonus Bonvoy points on bookings of two nights or longer with a minimum $2,000 spend at Homes & Villas properties. You need to book by May 22, 2026, with travel through January 3, 2027. If you were already considering a vacation rental through the Marriott ecosystem, stacking this with your Marriott Bonvoy Boundless category night earnings makes it a reasonable deal.
Air France/KLM Leadership Shakeup
Flying Blue's parent company saw notable leadership changes this week that could signal adjustments to their loyalty program direction. The specifics of how this affects Flying Blue redemptions aren't clear yet, but program shake-ups at the executive level historically precede award chart changes — sometimes for the better, sometimes not. If you have Flying Blue miles parked, keep an eye on redemption rates over the next few months.
More This Week
Chase 10x Paze Bonus Through December 2026
Chase added a 10x bonus on purchases made via Paze checkout at select merchants, including United and Newegg, through December 2026. The bonus applies to Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Freedom Flex, and other Chase card variants, capped at $1,500 in spend per month. Paze is the bank-consortium digital wallet — worth enabling if you haven't yet, especially if you shop at participating retailers regularly.
Capital One: MLB Tickets for 5,000 Points
Capital One's entertainment portal is offering premium MLB tickets at 5,000 points each — for some games in desirable seating sections, that's genuinely strong value. Tickets are selling quickly and capped at four per game. If you have Capital One miles sitting around and enjoy baseball, worth checking the portal directly.
Rakuten Adds Bank of America Cards to Portal
Rakuten is now offering supplementary cashback on Bank of America credit card applications — $150 for the Travel Rewards card and $75 for the Customized Cash card. These stack with the standard signup bonuses. If you were already considering a BofA card, applying through Rakuten is an easy extra hundred-plus dollars.
Ally Launches "Loyally" Program
Ally Financial launched a new loyalty program called Loyally, offering existing customers perks like a free year of Calm and discounted Instacart+. It's not a points play — more of a soft benefit bundle for Ally account holders. Interesting to see traditional banks experimenting with loyalty frameworks outside of credit card rewards.
Card Curator Take
Chase is running simultaneous transfer bonuses this week — 30% to Southwest through June 5 and 55% to Marriott Bonvoy through June 30 — making this an unusually strong window for Ultimate Rewards holders to move points. Southwest is the more broadly useful play for most people; the Marriott bonus is niche but the best Chase → Bonvoy rate we've seen. The AmEx Marriott Business 150K elevated offer is also worth serious attention, particularly for anyone whose business spend hasn't been maximized yet. Between those opportunities and the Citi → Wyndham bonus running through mid-June, this was a genuinely active week for points optimization.
The Discover → Capital One migration on July 27 is the bigger long-term story. It marks the final step of a major industry consolidation that's been playing out for over a year. Whether that ultimately benefits Discover cardholders depends on how Capital One handles the integration — but getting familiar with the Capital One app now isn't a bad idea.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Chase Ultimate Rewards 30% transfer bonus to Southwest work?
When you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest Rapid Rewards during the promo period (through June 5, 2026), every 1,000 points transferred becomes 1,300 Southwest points instead of the standard 1,000. There's a 1,000-point minimum, and points typically post within seven days. The bonus is stackable with any existing Southwest Rapid Rewards you have — including points toward the Companion Pass threshold.
What is the AmEx Marriott Bonvoy Business elevated offer?
The current elevated offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card is 150,000 Bonvoy points plus a $125 statement credit after spending $8,000 in the first six months. The standard offer is 125,000 points, making this a notably better deal if you can meet the spend requirement. Bonvoy points are most valuable at luxury and aspirational properties, where you can extract 2–3¢ per point or more.
What happens to Discover cardholders when Capital One takes over the app on July 27?
Starting July 27, 2026, Discover cardholders will manage their accounts through the Capital One website and mobile app. Your existing rewards, account history, and card terms remain the same — Capital One has committed to maintaining the Discover it product line. The main practical change is logging in to a new platform; Capital One has said travel earning benefits will also be added for applicable Discover cards.
